North East London Sexual Health and HIV Network,
made up of seven London Primary Care Trusts, wanted to drive
awareness and educate the North East London population about the
sexual health services available in the area , as well as
motivating them to be tested for sexually transmitted infections
(STI). Due to the high rise in STI diagnoses, a strategy was
urgently needed to improve the community's sexual health.
Merchant Healthcare Marketing was appointed to work closely with
the North East London Sexual Health and HIV Network to develop a
brand for a new online destination for the North East London
community to go to for clear information about sexual health.
The North East London Sexual Health and HIV Network
re-launched as an online brand SHO-me.nhs.uk (Sexual Health Online
for North East London) in November 2008. SHO-me.nhs.uk was
launched through an integrated campaign including, public
relations, leaflet distribution, outdoor advertising and the
SHO-me.nhs.uk roadshow, a sexual health unit touring North East
London offering free sexual health checks and contraception.
Dr Jose Figueroa, Deputy Director of Public Health said, "The
results have already started flooding in, with over 6,000 people
visiting the site within the six week it was launched. Sexual
health can be an embarrassing subject for many, so we needed to
develop an interactive resource for the local community to access
information quickly and simply. Merchant Healthcare Marketing
really captured the essence of what we were trying to achieve and
the campaign has raised our awareness, not just in the local area,
but with other local PCTs."
